The Longest Table — Wollongong

An evening of Mediterranean food, community and connection, hosted by Michelle in collaboration with Nick's on Bourke, raising funds for hospital research.

Tuesday 15 September 2026

I'm incredibly excited to be hosting The Longest Table in collaboration with Nick from Nick's on Bourke Greek Restaurant in Wollongong, and I couldn't think of a more fitting place to bring people together.

The Mediterranean diet is one of the most extensively researched dietary patterns in the world, with strong evidence supporting its role in overall health, metabolic health, cardiovascular health and healthy ageing.

But for me, this event is about much more than food. As a Cancer Nutritionist working in integrative cancer care, I see every day how important research is in helping us better understand cancer prevention, treatment, recovery and quality of life. Cancer statistics continue to rise, and the need for better research and better understanding has never been more important.

That's why I'm passionate about bringing our community together around a shared table, to enjoy wonderful Greek food, connect with one another, and raise much-needed funds for hospital research.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to The Longest Table. One of the things I love most about food is its ability to bring people together: to sit around a table, share a meal, have a laugh, connect and sometimes talk about the things that really matter. And that's exactly what we did.

But we came together for something much bigger: to raise money for cancer research and support The Hospital Research Foundation Group, in which we raised over $1,700.

Cancer touches so many of us, and while we have come a long way, there is still so much we don't know. Research matters because it gives us the opportunity for better treatments, better care and, ultimately, better outcomes. This cause is particularly close to my heart because of my passion for nutritional oncology and integrative cancer care.

I believe cancer care is not about one treatment, one discipline or one approach. Conventional medical treatment is fundamental, but there is also an important place for nutrition, lifestyle and supportive care alongside it, working collaboratively and looking at the whole person. I believe in curiosity, evidence, collaboration and empowerment: helping people understand the things they can influence and feel more informed and involved in their own care.

A massive thank you to Nick at Nick's on Bourke for allowing me to host The Longest Table and for the incredible food and hospitality. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes, bought tickets, donated, helped behind the scenes and supported the event. And to my family and friends: thank you for all the encouragement, help and support along the way.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who came and helped make the night what it was. One table. Good food. Great people. An important cause. And hopefully, together, we've made a meaningful contribution to cancer research.

With thanks to our sponsors
